PGPM

Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) is the flagship program of IAME. This program is equivalent to any full time master’s level program in Management (i.e MBA, PGP of IIMS, PGDM etc). The PGPM of IAME, however, goes much beyond similar courses.

Our Flagship Program – PGPM

60 % Theory + 40% Practice = 100 % Job Ready

Beyond conventional Post Graduate Courses.

The Guiding Principles

  • Importance of practice based learning :

IAME believes that Management is a practice based profession, unlike other professions, which are primarily information based. Hence, the learning of Management should also be acquired through practice rather than depending mainly on theory. Hence, PGPM has a large percentage (almost 40 %) of curriculum and time dedicated to practical learning.

  • Importance of Skills over Knowledge:

Unlike other professions, as a Manager, the knowledge gained in classrooms cannot be directly applied uniformly, since managing is situational. It needs skills to apply the knowledge. It is important, therefore, for students to learn the skills of managing in addition to the theoretical knowledge. Hence, PGPM curriculum dedicates major time for improving proficiency in management skills.

  • Importance of application:

Employers of management professionals expect their employees to have the ability of applying the learnt theories, rather than just possess the knowledge. The IAME PGPM, therefore, dedicates quality time in giving opportunity to the students to apply the theories through management laboratory and mini projects.

  • Importance of managing India the Indian way :

Most management knowledge and practices have been imported from the west. India is emerging as an economic super power and would need Indian equivalents of the western models as well as developing new models for India. PGPM of IAME is designed to address this issue and the students are encouraged to explore this domain through case studies, seminars and profiling of Indian industries

Basic Structure

PGPM at IAME is a Post Graduation Program in Management, where the curriculum is not only equivalent to any normal MBA, but includes hands on practical experience thru unique Corporate Interface Program covering almost 40 % of the course. The students begin the course by July / August of a calendar year and complete the course by May/ June, two calendar years later. The overall duration of the course, therefore, is approximately 20-22 months. Consequently, PGPM has 2 Academic Years – First Year and Final Year.

Trimester System

PGPM is split into 6 trimesters, with 3 trimesters every academic year. Approximately 3 out of 6 trimesters are dedicated to  practice  based  learning through Corporate Interface Program (CIP).

Course Coverage

In line with IAME philosophy of practice based learning, PGPM has following 4 discrete components of learning management.

  • Theory Management   (TM) –  Primary theoretical learning through core and specialization subjects. This forms the bulk of study by the students, similar to any other full time PG program in Management.
  • Applied Management  (AM) -  (scroll down for details)

Since the industry expects their employees to apply the learning gained at the college, IAME gives stress on specific activities for the students to apply the theories.

  • Career Management  (CM) -  Training for making the students ready for their careers through:
    • Management Skills Proficiency (MSP) – (scroll down for details)
    • Corporate Interface Program (scroll down for details)
    • Guest lectures from eminent industry professionals
    • Workshops for learning industry practices
    • Industry visits
  • Interactive Management (IM) – Developing social and interactive skills of the students through:
    • Management Games
    • Extra-curricular activities
    • Competitions
    • Functions / Events

Since all the above are a part of learning, students are assessed for their performance in each of them. Specific marks and credits have to be earned by the students and the consequent results would form a part of their performance appraisal.

Core and Specialization Subjects

PGPM incorporates several subjects as Core, which are compulsory for all students to learn. This includes the learning and activities under AM, CM, IM, in addition to TM.
IAME offers 7 Specializations in PGPM.

  • Marketing Management
  • Finance Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Information Systems Management
  • Entrepreneurship Management
  • Retail Management

1st and 2nd Trimesters incorporate only core subjects. The balance trimesters (3rd to 6th) have both core and specialization subjects.

Choice of Specialization

PGPM is a dual specialization course. A student can opt for any two specializations. This is, however, not mandatory. A student may opt to take only one specialization also, but without recourse to any concession in tuition fees.

Credit System

Each subject and activity under PGPM carries credits, for theory subjects as well as other practical activities under Applied Management and Career Management.

All the above have an evaluation system. Marks & grade will be awarded for each credit based subject and activity.

Project and Viva Voce

The IAME PG Project is compulsory for the students to complete by the end of their PGPM course and carries specific credits and marks. It is an opportunity for the students to research something of interest and importance to them in the field Management.

Management Skills Proficiency (MSP)

This is program intended to improve the skills needed for gaining and retaining employment. Normally known as soft skills, the program envisages training in:

  • Language Skills ( spoken and written)
  • Communication Skills (beyond language)
  • Business Skills (Business computing, presentations etc)
  • Corporate Skills (Report writing, corporate behavior etc.)
  • Placement Skills ( Resume writing, Interview skills)

This program is run over all trimester with credits & performance evaluation and forms a part of the final declaration of results. The program is compulsory for all students.

Corporate Interface Program

IAME believes that Management is practice oriented discipline and not merely a theory based course. Consequently, the students need to be able to learn on the field as much as in the classrooms to be able to become effective managers.

Students are put through an intensive exposure to the corporate world thru a unique Corporate Interface Program covering almost 3 out of the 6 trimesters.
The objectives of CIP are:

  • Practical learning as an integral part of PGPM studies.
  • Expose students to real life work situations.
  • Opportunity to see and apply the theories learnt.
  • Sensitize them to the possible gap between theory and practice.
  • Give them a feel of what to expect when they are finally placed after completing PGPM.
  • Make them better equipped to serve their future organizations, than the students who do mostly campus based classroom learning.

These objectives are achieved thru:

  • Corporate Exposure ( 10 to 12 weeks )
  • Summer  Internship ( 10 to 12 weeks)
  • Management Skills  Proficiency
  • Applied  Management

Applied Management

Since the industry expects their employees to apply the learning gained at the college, IAME gives stress on specific activities for the students to apply the theories. This aspect is covered through

  • Concept Review Sessions
  • Current Affairs Awareness
  • Management Lab
  • Industry Profiling
  • Mini Projects
  • This program also carries credits & performance evaluation and forms a part of the final declaration of results. The program is compulsory for all students to take.
